What is a volcano?
什麽是火山？
1. Volcanoes are big holes that let out hot gasses, ash and magma from deep inside the Earth.
火山能從地球深處釋放出熱氣，火山灰和岩漿。
2. When a volcano erupts, magma comes up and out through the vents.
火山爆發時，岩漿通過火山口噴出。
3. When magma flows out of a volcano, it’s called lava.
岩漿從火山口流出時，被稱爲熔岩。

1. The rock inside the planet we live on can melt to form molten rock called magma.

2. This magma is lighter than the rocks around it and so it rises upwards.

3. Where the magma eventually reaches the surface we get an eruption and volcanoes form.

What are the different stages of volcanoes?

1. Three main categories are active, dormant, and extinct.

2. An active volcano is one which has recently erupted and there is a possibility that it may erupt soon.

3. A dormant volcano is one which has not erupted in a long time but there is a possibility it can erupt in the future.

4. An extinct volcano is one which has erupted thousands of years ago and there’s no possibility of eruption.
